Schnelby Road Side Trip

March 23, 2005

(Going where the pink Jeeps go)

After some local sightseeing I was interested in driving further up Schnelby Road. It turned to dirt at the hike trailhead parking lot and my reference book said it didn't require 4 wheel drive (not that I cared) but high clearance was a must. It sounded far off the beaten path to be interesting. Brother Tom, Aunt Lillian and Mom went along. By now the clouds were extremely dark with patches of sunlight now and then. We made quite a few stops to absorb all the nature around us. We only drove a few miles up the road as it was quite bumpy and all of my passengers were starting to complain. Especially after I crossed the small gully to get on the rock slab a little bit too fast. But one should always be ready to leave the road!

Tom has some additional photos on his web site here

Schnelby Road was the old cow trail from Flagstaff
to Sedona.
