Cedar Creek Falls

5/22/2005

Cedar Creek Falls is 10 or so miles southwest of Julian. The Sunday paper had a story with direction the week before and it sounded like a good destination. For as many times as I have driven by I've never explored this area before. Its very rugged and hilly. Eagle Peak Road turns off from Pine Hill road and 8 miles so of graded dirt road gets you to the trail head. It is a 2 mile and over a 1000 foot descent to get down to the falls. I should have taken more pictures along the way but it was hot (90+) and I desperately wanted to jump in the water. People were straggling up as I was going down and it was evident that the heat was taking its toll. A ranger was at the trail head reminding people to take plenty of water. The flowers along the old jeep road trail were 3 foot high and in bloom.

Mildred Falls is the first thing you see when you start the hike.
It is over a 100 ft tall and normally dry.

Looking back to the parked van. There were too many cars
to park at the trail head. The last 1/2 mile approach is steep
and narrow. This is about 1/4 mile from the trail head

Next stop - jump in the pool at the base of the falls. There
were about 40 people lounging around.

Jumping off the rocks was thrilling for some.

Cavorting in the falls was popular.
